Overview[]
The Givanium Elder, also known as the Elder, is a supporting protagonist that appears in Garten of Banban VIII: Anti Devil. He is the chief of the Givanium Village, a small village located inside Zolphius's stomach.
Personality[]
The Givanium Elder is a wise leader, ruling his village with reason and responsibility. His deep knowledge, including the truth about Flumbo, led to his banishment into Zolphius’s stomach, where he presumably built the village. Though he perishes alongside his village, his previous revelation of Flumbo’s true identity gives Flumbo the newfound confidence to stand up to Syringeon and Banban at the end of the game
Appearance[]
The Givanium Elder looks similar to the Givanium Citizens and, to an extent, the Stalker. He has long, deflated lanky limbs, and his chest and stomach are bunched up with extra skin. His head is a rounder oval shape with a rounded triangular mouth slightly popping out from his head. His eye sockets are large vertical ovals with bunched up skin around the edges, and have black sclera in them. He also wears a golden crown with ruby jewels embedded around it.
Gameplay[]
The Givanium Elder makes his first appearance when the Player visits his hut in Givanium Village. He remarks that the Player and Flumbo nearly fell on top of him, and explains that the villagers, angry with Flumbo, had locked him in a cage. He then asks the Player to find his crown, and once it is found, they head to the cage where Flumbo is being held. There, the Elder explains that Flumbo was imprisoned because survivors from a neighboring village fire claimed he had started it. In order to free him, they would have to get all the village ministers to vote in favor of his release in crumpled paper.
After the Player collects the votes from the three ministers, the Elder reveals they all voted against Flumbo’s release. He then proposes another way: proving Flumbo was not responsible for the fires. The Elder accompanies the Player to the abandoned village to search for clues. After Varzah is defeated, the Elder arrives at the entrance, sees Varzah unconscious, and apologizes to the Player for accusing them.
After returning, the Elder apologizes to Flumbo and frees him from the cage. He then leads Flumbo and the Player to a mural in the village, which shows Flumbo in the center instead of Banban. The Elder then reveals that Flumbo’s true identity was not Case 6C but Flumbo, the intended superstar of the facility’s cast. He explains he was cast into Zolphius’s stomach for knowing this truth and urges Flumbo to claim what is rightfully his. He then tells the Player to rest at their guesthouse, noting that someone is waiting to speak with them there.
After waking from Stinger Flynn’s dream, the Player finds the village in flames. The Elder leads them to Flumbo, Stinger Flynn, and a tower of Givanium Citizens built to help them escape, explaining that Varzah survived and set the fires. He gives the Player a videotape for Banban, then stays behind, declaring that a true leader must die with his village.
Trivia[]
- The Givanium Elder looks slightly more well-fed than most of the Givanium Citizens.
