"It's okay to have no friends and be miserable like me!"
-Nabnab
Overview[]
Nabnab is a minor antagonist in Garten of Banban II, an overarching antagonist in Garten of Banban III and Garten of Banban IV, the minor deuteragonist in the final half of Garten of Banban VI, and an overarching protagonist in Garten of Banban VII.
Personality[]
Nabnab is an abandoned member of Banban's Family who is extremely aggressive due to a mixture between instinct and loneliness. He was loose for presumably most of his existence,[1] causing massive casualties amongst the facilities' staff. The Spider is sympathetic towards others that he notices are like him and will bond with them.
Appearance[]
Mural[]
Nabnab's murals shows him lurking with his arms raised in the air in a menacing matter, he has bright blue skin and a monochromatic party hat.
Monster[]
Nabnab appears as a blue spider-like humanoid with three eyes, a large mouth with several sharp teeth, and a long, hanging out tongue. He wears a monochromatic party hat that tilts off of the left side of his head. In Garten of Banban III, it was lost after Jumbo Josh knocked him out.
[Hellish]][]
Hellish Nabnab is a contrasting variant of Nabnab, as his teeth are slightly more sharp. His legs and arms are more sinewy than before, however his skin is scaly and smooth. His eyes are black, in contrast to Hellish Banban’s pure white eyes. He is also many times bigger than his regular version, effected by the Givanium injected into him by Banban.Gameplay[]
Garten of Banban II[]
Nabnab is first seen in the Maintenance Room, in the Communications Sector. After you grab the Light-Blue Keycard, Nabnab will start chasing the Player, who needs to move or else he will jump on them. If there's a blue arrow in front of us, we must go in the direction that it shows. If it's pink, then we should go in the opposite direction. As we exit the Maintenance Room, Nabnab, locked in tunnel vision, smashes into the wall.
The next time we see Nabnab in this game, and the last time, is at the end of the game, where if you go all the way back to the beginning of the chase scene after Jumbo Josh grabs Banbaleena, the hallway is barricaded with beds, and you can see Nabnab staring at you from beyond the hallway.
Garten of Banban III[]
At the beginning of the game, after the Player receives the Purple Keycard, Nabnab can be seen in the hole where the Cleaner exited through. When approached, he goes into the hole and escapes to his room.
When the first Stinger Flynn Mode sequence ends, Nabnab goes into the Spider Room. If The Player tries to enter while he’s in there, he will run out of the room and kill them.
When Nabnaleena is waiting for him in Arboreal/Aquatic Sector, Nabnab comes out of the door to the Spider Room and goes to meet her. After they acquaint and dance on the ceiling, they head in the direction of the lift, but Jumbo Josh suddenly grabs Nabnab, and Nabnaleena runs back into the Spider Room out of fear. The next time we see him, he is unconscious in the Jumbo Watch Room, noticeably without his party hat. He doesn't wake up, even after the puzzle is complete.
Garten of Banban IV[]
In the Ventilation Sector, after escaping from the Bittergiggle Room, we go into a room full of vents, where Sheriff Toadster points out that we are being stalked by Nabnab. When the Player gets close to the vent Nabnab is in, Little Beak chirps to warn us. Once we get to the other side of the room, the Sheriff turns off the ventilation system, flushing Nabnab out.
Nabnab appears in Stinger Flynn’s dream sequence. He gives you his last vegetable snack after Banban tells you that they are out of them, and Flynn gets surprised by this kindness. When Charles appears, Nabnab talks to him while Flynn tries to grab Banban.
Nabnab’s final appearance is in the Feeding Sector, when Banban tries to give Mr. Kabob Man to Zolphius. Nabnab then appears and steals it, starting a chase sequence. When you find the two of them, Banban calls Nabnab “unfixable” before getting into a big fight with him, which Banban wins after turning hellish and knocking out Nabnab. When you come back to the fight room after bringing back the second elevator part, Nabnab is gone, and you don't see him again for the rest of the game.
Garten of Banban VI[]
After returning from the Potentiality Sector, Banban tells you that Nabnab showed up, and since he was “up to his usual shenanigans”, Banban locked him in a cage. However, before we go to the Scepter Room, Banban frees him as a show of trust. When the cage is opened, Nabnab gets up and dashes away into the darkness. Later, while Banban and Bittergiggle are thinking about how eerily simple it is to push the eject button on the chest containing the scepter, Nabnab rushes in and pushes the button continuously, revealing there wasn't a trap there. Suddenly, Sir Dadadoo enters the room, and after a lengthy bit of dialogue, Banban tells Nabnab that they've always been friends, and after putting his hand on Nabnab’s shoulder, stabs him with a syringe full of a Givanium Solution and throws him over the railing. This mutates Nabnab into his Hellish form, which cause him to rabidly attack Sir Dadadoo, giving The Player, Banban, and Bittergiggle a chance to escape.
Garten of Banban VII[]
Nabnab is a minor character in this game, and only appears in the Stinger Flynn dream sequence. In the dream everyone is flying in a plane, but then Banban and Stinger Flynn start fighting. After Flynn, Banban, and Opila Bird fall out of the plane, Nabnab grabs the Player and Captain Fiddles and jumps out of the plane. As The Player, Nabnab, and the others fall over the Givanium ocean, Banban battles Stinger Flynn as the plane explodes above us for no apparent reason, ending the dream.
Garten of Banban VIII: Anti Devil[]
Nabnab only appears in the Stinger Flynn dream sequence and after The Player gets spit out of Zolphius' body. There is a drawing on the ground saying he watches from above, and in fact, he just watches from the ceiling and doesn't do much.
Trivia[]
- Nabnab's model without its eyes and tongue can be found out of bounds, presumably changed slightly and used for Nabnaleena during her minigame in Garten of Banban III.
- Nabnab appears to be the opposite of Banban in every way. While Banban has lots of friends, but Nabnab has none. Banban is red, and Nabnab is blue (as these colors are often considered opposites). Banban’s Hellish eyes are pure white, Nabnab’s Hellish eyes are pure black. Banban is more humanoid, while Nabnab is more animalistic. Furthermore, Banban's party hats are colorful, meanwhile, Nabnab's party hat has monochromatic greys. Even his name, "Nabnab", is just Banban spelled backwards. Their only similarity is their tongues sticking out from their mouths and party hats in their respective monster forms.
- Nabnab has a female counterpart called Nabnaleena (similar with Banban and Banbaleena).
- Despite Nabnab being a spider, he only has four legs when most spiders have eight.
- Nabnab can be seen following the car in Stinger Flynn's dream.
- Nabnab can only pathfind to the player as long as he can reach them and there's a path on the ceiling to climb on. Hacking the game reveals Nabnab cannot actually leave the warehouse. However, if the player tries to phase through the floor during the sequence where Nabnab crawls after them, Nabnab will lunge through the floor to attack the player.
- In the trailer for the Garten of Banban II mobile port, Nabnab's hat is missing in the thumbnail.
- Nabnab's tongue and party hat are absent in Garten of Banban IV, aside from his appearance in the hallucination where the Special Guest appears. His tongue reappears when he grabs Mr. Kabob Man.
- It is possible to never see Nabnab in the Ventilation Sector, since you can only see him if you walk in front of the wrong vent and he kills you.
- He's one of the only characters that Sheriff Toadster has not been captured, and one of the few monsters that Sir Dadadoo has not possessed.[2][3]
- In the Attack Room, Nabnab's party hat can be found under the ground below Mr. Kabob Man.[4]
- Nabnab is one of the most used enemies in the series, being a minor antagonist in Garten of Banban II, the overarching antagonist for the first half of Garten of Banban III and middle of Garten of Banban IV, and a minor deuteragonist of the final half of Garten of Banban VI.
- It is unclear what happened to him after his fight against Sir Dadadoo, as he was not a part of the Naughtified Crew and did not appear in Garten of Banban VII. It is later revealed that he survived the collision with Sir Dadadoo as he is shown in the Third Teaser Trailer for Garten of Banban VIII.[5]
- The strained relationship between Banban and Nabnab throughout the series may be linked to Flumbo's disappearance after Banban hid him in a closet.
- Similarly to Banbaleena, if you get close enough to Nabnab and then jump in Garten of Banban 0, his eyes pop out of his sockets.
- The concept of him being a tower of teeth was taken inspiration from the character Stinger Flynn would have been, Oscar Star.
- Despite his party hat being missing in Garten of Banban III, the first time Nabnab was seen without his party hat was on the thumbnail for the mobile devices Release Trailer.
- Nabnab’s monster form has a tongue, but his mural doesn’t have one.
