"Having many arms allows me to help a lot more people!"
- Stinger Flynn
Overview
Stinger Flynn, AKA Case 13, or The Jellyfish, is the main antagonist of Garten of Banban III, but later serves as a neutral ally to The Player in later installments.
Appearance
Mural
Stinger Flynn's design depicts an orange jellyfish with one eye in the middle of his bell shaped head, connecting to 6 extendable tentacles. Four of his tentacles are down, while the other two are up at the sides of his head in a friendly pose.
Monster
Stinger Flynn looks similar to his depiction counterpart but there are still some differences. The lower part of his bell shaped head extends downward slightly more in multiple places, he has several veins due to Givanium, and he also has a large burn scar across his eye. Flynn, is also larger than Jumbo Josh and Cyan Fiddles, but smaller than Zolphius. In his dreams and after being drained of Givanium in IV he is much smaller, being around the size of the player.
Personality
Stinger Flynn is usually portrayed as emotionless and apathetic, contrasting to his depiction on the murals (which states that "having many arms allow me to help more people", giving him a more 'friendly' depiction of his personality). He is a highly intelligent manipulator who views others, including his fellow mascots, as pawns in his plan to achieve "mental refinement". However, he does not usually resort to violence, only using mental manipulation and/or blaming, as seen by how he constantly blames the Player for everything that happens in the kindergarten (even if he too is at fault).
Stinger Flynn has good control over most of his emotions excluding "hate" and "sorrow", which are the "only things he feel". He has a pessimistic outlook on everything and usually expects the worst. However, the reason why Flynn acts this way is because of his desire to see "the beach" - which was supposed to be his original home. Stinger Flynn knows his chances of escaping the kindergarten are low and so are the chances of him seeing the beach, which is why he has an apathetic, dull and pessimistic view on everything.
Gameplay
Garten of Banban II
Flynn plays a slightly bigger role in Garten of Banban II than in the first game, as he has his own mission just like Opila Bird in the first game. In the mission, the player is tasked to collect all 8 seashells and put them in Stinger Flynn's treasure chest. After collecting the 8 seashells, a shelf next to the chest opens where you can find a Keycard that grants you access to the cannon minigame.
Garten of Banban III
Stinger Flynn's importance is raised again by him being the main antagonist of this installment. Initially, he serves as an ally to the player, attempting to guide them into leaving Banban's Kindergarten, as he fears they may never be able to rescue their child. However, as time goes on, he becomes more angered by their refusal to do so, and starts to try and keep you out by any means necessary. We also discover a new place thanks to him, a dreamland-like landscape entitled The Beach, where he can take people and the other residents of the kindergarten (as seen with Banban, Opila Bird, Captain Fiddles , and Nabnab) to regroup their minds, and get back to what they want to do. Zolphius also resides in this area, hinting he has the same motives as the others who can enter The Beach. Additionally, in between these segments in The Beach, we can access Stinger Flynn Mode, in which we can witness flashbacks of Stinger Flynn in his original state and play as him.
After a while, once the player tames Tarta Bird, they go through a door, in which Stinger Flynn and Opila Bird are found. Flynn talks about how Banban helped you to get to that point, but all that Banban really thought and cared about that entire time was pancreases. Shortly after, Flynn drops Banban, in which Banban then turns hellish and jumps back up onto the rail, and chases the player, Opila Bird, and Tarta Bird.
After the chase is complete, Banban catches up to the player, about to kill them. Jumbo Josh then interferes, and Tarta Bird and Opila Bird bring the player up the stairs to a higher and safer view. Banban proceeds to attack Jumbo Josh, in which Jumbo Josh slams Banban onto the ground. As Jumbo Josh is about to punch Banban again, Flynn interferes and tells both of them to stop. Stinger Flynn then starts sucking on Jumbo Josh’s toes. Jumbo Josh then grabs Flynn's eye and proceeds to slam him onto the ground as well, causing Tarta Bird to fall off the upper floor. Opila Bird then jumps off to save Tarta Bird, leaving the player with her chick, who goes on to become Little Beak.
Garten of Banban IV
Flynn's role in Garten of Banban IV is a lot smaller, with him now being reduced to a side character. The player finds him in a prison cell in the back of the infirmary, hooked up to pipes that drained his Givanium and made him smaller. Due to the player’s continuous pursuit of their children, Flynn blames them for the position both are currently in, with him now locked up and the player now in the kingdom. He takes them back to The Beach, where they, Banban, Nabnab, Opila Bird and Captain Fiddles now reside in a forest, after the crashing of the Stinger Mobile (Zolphius can also be seen in the background too.) In the dream, after Nabnab gives you his last vegetable snack, Flynn says he is surprised to see kindness from a spider. Banban then says that Jumbo Josh would’ve loved the vegetable snacks, which prompts Flynn to state that he is glad Josh isn’t there, because it is more peaceful without him. This prompts Banban to ask Flynn why he hates Josh so much. Flynn claims that hate is one of the only emotions he cannot control, the other being sorrow. Their conversation is suddenly interrupted by a monstrous train spider, which grabs Banban as Flynn tries to get him back. Nabnab then talks to the train spider, which allows Flynn to grab Banban before the Stinger Mobile explodes.
Flynn can also be seen on a Videotape found behind him in the same room. In the tape, we see him asleep in a boat in the corner of the Cannon Game Room. This tape was most likely recorded before the Stinger Flynn Mode sequences in Garten of Banban III.
Prior to Bittergiggle releasing The Naughty Ones in Queen Bouncelia's pouch, Sheriff Toadster let all the prisoners escape so they wouldn’t get hurt. Flynn, however, was grabbed by Toadster, and taken to the elevator, as he believed his knowledge could be useful.
Garten of Banban VI
Flynn's role is small in Garten of Banban VI. He first appears at the beginning of the game, where he can be seen lying unconscious in The Lift after escaping The Naughty Ones and Bittergiggle. His eye is closed.
After Ms. Mason gets kidnapped by the Naughty One, he is found next to Scepter's Storage Gates. He says a few words to Player and Bittergiggle, calling them “The Duo of Destruction,” before telling Bittergiggle that there was no point in redeeming himself, which prompts Bittergiggle to to insult him by saying that jellyfish have no brain.
After you complete the Potentiality Sector, he can be found on a rock near the Darkness. After some dialogue with him, he will teleport the Player to The Beach again. In this section, we, Flynn, Banban, Nabnab, Opila Bird and Captain Fiddles are waiting for the bus at the bus stop. When Flynn points out that you should sleep for a bit like Opila, Banban tells Flynn that Opila has been sleeping for days. A bus comes, but Flynn tells us it’s the wrong bus. More dialogue ensues and another bus comes, which Captain Fiddles goes to, but Flynn tells him it’s the wrong bus, before it takes the Captain and drives away. Nabnab tries chasing the bus to save the Captain, but gets hit by another one. Flynn tells everyone that they need to save Nabnab and Captain Fiddles as the correct bus crashes into the bus stop.
When you go into the scepter room, Flynn does not accompany you. After Sir Dadadoo breaks into the room and the naughtified monsters are revealed, his fate is unknown.
Garten of Banban VII
Flynn's role is slightly bigger in Garten of Banban VII. When the player encounters him outside The Theater after the Bittergiggle chase, he tells the Player he is afraid for the children before sending them back to The Beach. We are in a plane piloted by Stinger Flynn, and are in the back with Opila Bird, Captain Fiddles, Banban, and Nabnab. As Banban and Flynn gripe, Flynn suddenly grabs Banban and puts him in the copilot’s seat up front. This causes Banban to become hellish and attack Stinger Flynn, launching both of them, as well as Opila Bird, out of the plane. As the plane starts to crash, Nabnab grabs the player and Captain Fiddles and jumps out of the plane with them. As they fall, Banban keeps attacking Flynn, who asks Banban if he is out of his mind. The Player then looks up to see the plane exploding above them. When they wake up, Flynn is gone, and only a theater ticket remains where he used to be.
In the secret room with Brushista’s depiction in it, you can see that Flynn is immune to the effects of the scepter because of his high intelligence. He later reappears at the end of the game, where he points out that the Banban mural on the wall in front of us can be peeled off.
Garten of Banban VIII: Anti Devil
Stinger Flynn’s role is minor in this chapter. He is first seen in The Work Camp, where he is seen slowly mining a rock in the yard. He then talks to you, and discusses about how he may never be able to get the children, as he is now noticeably smaller due to the givanium being drained out of him, presumably by Syringeon. He is also seen behind a fence when Sheriff Toadster kills a Givanium Prisoner. We then do not see him again until Flumbo and the Parent fall into Zolphius’s mouth. When we are instructed to go back to sleep by the Givanium Elder, we see Stinger Flynn again. He tells us that he was thrown into the village after escaping the prison. He puts us in another dreamscape, where the gang are on a slowly moving cart, being guarded by Givanium Citizens. They discuss how Captain Fiddles did not pay their taxes, and that being the reason they are in the cart. It is then revealed that they are going to be executed. Sir Dadadoo is seen wielding a machete, as he instructs Captain Fiddles to rest on the log. Due to his build, Sir Dadadoo fails in executing him. Ramamba then flies through the air and engulfs everybody, concluding the dream. We then wake up, seeing the village in flames. The Elder orders us to climb the Givanium Ladder for our safety, sacrificing himself in the end. Flumbo and Stinger Flynn climb the ladder with us, and Stinger Flynn says that he has better things to do rather than save Banbaleena. He is then absent for the remainder of the chapter.
Voicelines Transcripts
Garten of Banban III
First time encountering Stinger Flynn:
- You've had a rough day. I can tell.
- You diligently wait for the moment you leave this wretched place with your child in hand, I can also tell.
- Not to undermine your efforts, but I fear that moment may never come.
- I cannot let it happen, and I will gladly show you why, but after I do, you take my advice.
- Leave this place while you still can. Erase it from your memory. Move on and forget any of this ever happened, and I promise you...
- Tomorrow will be a better day.
The Beach:
- Welcome to my home.
- Or at least, what was supposed to be my home.
- Down in the dark and cold depths of the facility, the circumstances force you to do things that are out of your nature.
- When I feel that I am straying too far off my original course, I head to the room you have found me in meditating in to mentally regroup.
- I come to this place, and then I'm reminded that what I'm fighting for is worth all of this pain and suffering.
- Of course, none of this is real, but it could be.
- I have never had actual sun rays touch my skin, can you imagine that? And I yearn for the day they finally do.
- I need the children to achieve that, but do not worry. I will practice the safest of procedures.
- Whatever I decide to do with the adults, I will make sure to keep one alive and sane so that the surviving children are delivered to the surface safe and sound.
- And of course, to deliver me to where I choose to be...
- Oh, to live the life of a completely brainless jellyfish; just munching on shrimp and avoid getting eaten by turtles all day.
- You never appreciate how calming it is to have no conscience until you have one.
- I admire your courage, so I am giving you the chance to walk away.
- Take it. That way you won't lose both your life and the chance to see your child.
Next to the The Lift:
- You've overstayed your welcome here.
- I even made you an offer, but guess what, accepting it is long overdue.
- Don't worry, I won't get rid of you or collect you just yet. I was never one to abide by waste.
- An old friend needs you a lot more than I do. They too are on a path to achieve peace of mind.
- I already have enough subjects to move forward with my aspiration and my mental refinement.
- You just take a little nap before I transfer you to where you're supposed to be...
Road Trip:
- I believe we are lost.
- I am struggling to locate the being who asked for your opinion.
- Can you all stop vocalizing for just one second so I can focus on the road?
- If your pathetic mouth utters another infuriating sentence, I will stuff your whole body into one of those stupid party hats on your head.
Pre-Hellish Banban Chase:
- Okay... bird-riding is a new one, I'll give you that.
- What drives you forward so vigorously? I refuse to accept that it's your protective parental instincts.
- Oh, I know. Someone has given you false hope, promised you what you want when all along they had one thing on their mind.
- Pancreases.
- At first I was confused about how everything was going perfectly in your favor, despite you never being here before.
- And then it hit me. Someone has to have been guiding you.
- And as with most things, I was right. You did have help.
- Your friend here has helped me tremendously.
- Thanks to him, I bore witness to very vital information.
- What information, you ask?
- Well, when my turn comes, I will simply prevent myself from turning into what he turned into.
Monster Fight:
- STOP IT, YOU TWO!
Garten of Banban IV
Trapped:
- Oh… It’s you….
- Don’t worry, I’m unable to hurt you. I’m too weak to do anything.
- By not listening to me and leaving when you had the chance, you have made a great mistake.
- Finally after managing to keep Josh under control, you just had to come and anger him.
- Look where your arrogance got us now; a position where neither of us can get to the children.
- This is your fault, and nobody else’s. I meant it when I said I would practice the safest of procedures.
- But regardless, I have something I want to show you.
- It sure looks like you need it.
At the campfire:
- Agreed.
- I already consumed my share of the nutrients we have gathered while you were in the slumber.
- I have never witnessed kindness coming from a spider before.
- I am pretty content he is not gracing us with his irritating presence.
- We’ve had our fair share of altercations.
- Hate is one of the two emotions I am unable to control.
- How is any being able to move past constant sorrow in a world like ours.
- Sometimes I feel like we’re all just doomed forever.
- We each have our plans and goals but at the end of the day it doesn’t really matter.
- Nor can it undo the past or previous misery.
- Our lives aren't perfect yet.
- Lots of other creatures reside in this ecosystems.
- Could be anything.
Garten of Banban VI
After Banbaleena's kidnapping:
- Oh... It's you two...
- The duo of destruction. Didn't you cause all of this to happen?
- Everyone that you care to see you redeem yourself is probably already gone, so what's the point?
Pre-bus station:
- I wanted to let you know that this is all happening because of you. Never convince yourself otherwise.
- If you hadn't intervened with my plan or the queen's, you'd be home on your warm bed.
- I would be free of my shackles, and everyone you hurt would not have been hurt.
- And ask yourself this. If I wasn't hooked up to pipes that drained me of my Givanium and shrunk my size.
- Could my original size have aided us in our predicament?
- Because of your foolish decisions, we are even less likely now to ever get back to the children.
- Regardless, there is another thing I want to show you.
- It sure looks like you need it.
At the Bus Station: (Dream)
- Quit whining, you’re not the only one.
- Maybe sleep for a bit like Opila,
- The bus is here.
- Ignore that, it’s not the correct one.
- We cannot. We must get to the beach.
- I will be frank, I did not know it would be this difficult to reach our destination.
- If it weren’t for your infuriating actions we would not be in this current predicament.
- You sure you wanna do this again?
- Do you have an idea how to get back from here?
- Another bus is here.
- And no one wants to conversate with a being who is less useful than the seat they’re sitting on.
- Get back here, this is the wrong bus too.
- I’m thinking.
- We just lost two…
- This wasn’t supposed to happen, we need to follow them.
Garten of Banban VII
Meeting Stinger Flynn
- I can’t say I’m happy to see you alive and well.
- That crazy leech can’t turn me into one of his minions, but it’s still too dangerous for me to wander out there.
- I want you to think of the amount of terror the children would feel at the sight of even just one of these… Naughty Ones…
- These mindless animals that hate nothing more than they hate humans.
- At this point, I wouldn’t eliminate the possibility that they found where I’ve hid the children.
- It is your actions that have even made this a possibility in the first place. It’s all your fault.
- Regardless, there is another thing I want to show you.
- It sure looks like you need it.
Inside the plane (Dream)
- I guess the same as always.
- We continue the forsaken journey to the beach.
- I DO NOT KNOW!
- I apologize, I am just tired of all of this.
- Tired of everything.
- There is no point, Banban.
- I fail to locate a point in doing any of it.
- and I fail to locate an end in sight.
- Maybe it’s time we abandon this plan.
- I mean how did we end up flying over a sea of Givanium instead of an actual sea?
- I am finished with your constant babbling.
- It’s always a mistake to start a conversation with you.
- Stay back, we’re gonna crash!
Falling from the sky (Dream)
- You need to stop!
- Are you out of your non-existent mind?!
Inside the hospital
- Umm… Why does it look like we can peel that drawing on the wall?
- That drawing on the ceiling. Seems like there’s something behind it.
Trivia
- Flynn was originally meant to be the main antagonist of Garten Of Banban instead of Opila Bird, as confirmed in the "How we made Opila Bird from Garten of Banban" video by the Euphoric Brothers.
- If you scan a QR-Code on one of the Notes from Garten Of Banban II you will get this text: "Do not trust the jellyfish" referring to Stinger Flynn, meaning that it is likely he is tricking the children and has malicious intentions.
- Despite having a non-humanoid appearance, Stinger Flynn has a human donor, as confirmed in his file because of his ability to speak.
- Flynn might have a connection with Slow Seline, Nabnab, and Jumbo Josh as images of them are found on QR Codes on Stinger Flynn's Case Update Reports.
- Compared to Garten of Banban III's banner, Stinger Flynn's eye has a different expression, that seems happier or relaxed but also seems mad or grumpy. It is unknown if this was intentional.
- Flynn's depiction on the mural with all the other characters depicted him being shorter than characters like Jumbo Josh and Sheriff Toadster. But in the Monster fight, he is bigger than Jumbo Josh in person. So it is possible he can change his size.
- Flynn could be considered the least aggressive of the mascots, as he never tries to hurt the workers, children, or the player (until the very end of GOB III), nor does he actively attack Jumbo Josh and Banban during the Monster Fight.
- Flynn clips through the floor in the final room in Garten of Banban III, with his long tentacles going through the floor while he tries to stop the fight between Banban and Jumbo Josh.
- Stinger Flynn is similar to a Jellyfish in almost every sense, considering jellyfish don't have organs (Although Flynn has a eye, which is the only organ that can be consider a thing for him).
- Stinger Flynn has spoken the most dialogue in the series. He has a total of 64 lines, across the two games.
- Despite his initial giant size in the third game, Flynn is shown to have inexplicably shrunken down in the fourth game. A likely reason for this is that Givanium needed to be extracted from his body, in order for Sheriff Toadster to successfully contain him. This was officially confirmed by Stinger Flynn himself in Garten of Banban VI.
- He is also the only character that was captured by Sheriff Toadster who did not receive a Toadster Archives entry.
- His Glitter RP Skin shows him without his scar.
- He makes a surprise appearance in the video game Greg's Deadly Draft in a Banban themed swimming pool.
- His appearance in the old cover of Garten of Banban III shows him having 8 tentacles despite his mural and actual monster form having six tentacles.
- This is most likely because the model used on the cover is an older version of Stinger Flynn’s model.
- He is voiced by Faris, the older one of the Euphoric Brothers.
- He was originally called Oscar Star, but this was scrapped for the reason being that it's features were too defined. These features were towers of teeth and multiple arms, these were repurposed into Nabnab and Syringeon respectively, this left Stinger Flynn with the one eye. As said by the voice of Bittergiggle, Ty Coker.
