Overview[]
Zolphius is a giant monster who has appeared in every game since Garten of Banban II except for Garten of Banban 0. He has a giant pale white head, and a long neck that disappears into The Abyss below. Even though his design leans the furthest into horror, he is not aggressive and his appearances are only in the background of environments.
Appearance[]
Mural[]
Zolphius appears to be a gigantic pale head finished with a neck. The head is flat and round with a face consisting of enormous eyes with sockets which are a little too big for them, a human-like nostril and a large, empty mouth.
Monster[]
His monster form looks different due to his eyes being completely gone, only leaving behind damaged eye sockets along with a damaged mouth and nose. The other difference is his neck being much longer and thicker. His neck may have a body attached, as his stomach is way too big to fit in the seen parts of his body.
Gameplay[]
Garten of Banban II[]
Zolphius is one of the characters introduced in the second game. He appears after the Player exits the Medical Sector in which they were trapped in, seen rising out of the abyss.
Garten of Banban III[]
He appears in one of Stinger Flynn's Dream Space sequences, emerging from the water just off the shore of a beach, and in a drawing the Player can pick up after defeating Tamataki & Chamataki. There’s a secret in the game as well, involving a room in the B2 Medical Sector accessed by a green Keycard. In this room, there is a door that can be opened by entering the correct sequence on the Keycard Readers with the characters depicted above them.
This code is revealed by scanning the QR codes on the Case Update Reports. When the door is opened, there is a note and an Audio Disc on the shelf, the latter of which can be played at the speaker near the Spider Room in the Arboreal / Aquatic Sector. When the Audio Disc is played, the screens will turn on and display a message which reads, “Unrecognized Assembly Called. Practice emergency protocols.” After leaving the room and going back to The Lift, Zolphius will be seen once again rising from the abyss, slowly getting closer and saying, "Lo siento..." ("I am sorry...")
Garten of Banban IV[]
Once the player wakes up after Stinger Flynn's dream sequence, Zolphius can be found in the dark above.
After leaving behind Banban, Nabnab, and Mr. Kabob Man in the feeding center, you can find Zolphius residing in the abyss in front of you.
Garten of Banban VI[]
In this game, Zolphius can only be seen in the far distance during Stinger Flynn's dream sequence. Zolphius also made a cameo in the Notes from the Unknown Boy.
Garten of Banban VII[]
In this game, Zolphius appears in the background of Cityngeon. He also appears in Stinger Flynn's dream sequence outside of the plane.
Garten of Banban VIII: Anti Devil[]
Zolphius is seen watching over Flumbo next to the Tower of the Surgeon. The player then releases Flumbo, but they are confronted by Banban and Syringeon. It is at this point when Zolphius starts doing something he'd never been seen doing before: he moves further below the platform. Flumbo then grabs the player and jumps off the platform with them, landing inside of Zolphius' mouth. The player then wakes up inside Givanium Village, which was hidden inside the stomach of Zolphius for all this time.Trivia[]
- Zolphius has the least amount of dialogue out of any character that speaks.
- Due to his appearance, it's suggested that Zolphius' genomes are Givanium, human, and some type of worm.
- Of all the mascots, he bears the least resemblance to his mural.
- Zolphius is the second character to have a mural with eyes looking at you instead of left or right, the first being Yellow Fiddles.
- 2 moments when his mural appears in the game are on Syringeon's Case Whiteboards in the Hospital and on the Immunity List hidden in Tools Mart.
- It's unknown why he has a mural, if he was a secret monster, who mustn't be introduced to people and was only like a "handmade" baby.
- Zolphius is the only character to speak in a different language other than English without changing the language.
